The Truckers
project
was
envisaged
with
a
felt
need
to
prevent
the
transmission
of
HIV-AIDS
among
truckers.
This
project
was
in
collaboration
with
Mumbai
District
aids
Control
Society
(MDACS).
The
project
started
in
1999
and
was
exited
in
2007.
As
per
the
new
guidelines
of
National
Aids
Control
Organization
(NACO),
the
project
was
handed
over
to
the
Truckers
Association.
However,
we
decided
to
continue
providing
outreach
services,
6
days
a
week
and
medical/
clinical
services,
3
days
a
week.
To
support
this
activity
we
raise
funds
through
individual
donors
and
use
funds
from
the
income
generated
from
typing
–
computer
institute.
The project
operates
in
the
Octroi
Check
Post
of
Mulund
Check
naka
(west).Training
was
provided
to
truck
drivers,
cleaners,
and
other
stake
holders
operating
in
the
project
area.

year
Total
1550
truckers
were
contacted
- 625
truckers
accepted
condom
packets
-
3100
condoms
were
distributed
free
of
cost
- 294
condoms
were
distributed
through
social
marketing.
- The
medical
services
were
provided
to
729
truckers
during
this
year.
